batman vs. the dark knight trailer

OK, I’m a bit over the whole Dark Night movie thing. Sure I’ll see it, I’m a comic book nerd from long way back, but will everyone just shut up about it… Shit… It’s not like someone died after the filming of it… oh wait… nevermind.

So yes its a movie, and yes it will probably be a good one… But geeeezzzz… Enough already.

I do however have sentimential memories of watching the batman movies where Michael Keaton was Batman. I was growing up, and I thought that those movies were so bloody cool. Anyway, the directors of the Dark Night have tipped their hat to the previous generation of Batman movies, and I respect them for that. So below is a comparison between the trailer for the new and the old films to show you just what I am talking about.

assuming you are the father…

Babygadget had this on their blog recently, and considering how close Claire and I are to becoming parents, I had to laught. Yes, I do hope I’m the dad, and you never know, I might even be half decent at it.

pacman and ghosts cupcakes

Back on the topic of nerdy cakes, but this time it’s Pacman and some freaky ghosts. I’m trying to collect as many of these ideas as possible in anticipation for doing some cake making myself. If anyone has any good thoughts on how to make these cakes, feel free to let me know.

I’m planning on doing some test runs with Robot cupcakes to see how much of a catastrophic mess I can make. I’ll post some photos when we’re done…

sexy star wars stormtrooper boots

How incredibly gross, but absolutely beautiful at the same time. For the Star Wars nerds that want their girlfriends to dress up like a storm trooper.

mario world wall graphics

Wow… I was going to write about how I’d like my soon-to-be child’s room to be set up like this, but now that I think of it I want this in MY bedroom. In the mean time,  I’ll be checking out the rest of the Nintendo decals over at http://www.whatisblik.com/nintendo/

marital rating scale

This has been floating around the internet for a while, but I thought it was worth posting. However, I have no intentions in rating my wife to see whether she scrubs up or not… I don’t really feel like sleeping on the couch in such cold weather.

Just wish it had an item listed about pinching my blog posts…

Update: And what do those laughs come under when she giggles then snorts?  Is that worth a merit or demerit?

feist counting four monsters

For Claire… I know you’re going to love it!

Update… Here’s a lesson for everyone. When writing a blog post, don’t show your wife. She might just steal it and post it herself before yours comes online.

zen garden styled sandbox playset

Anyone that has been to our house knows the love that Claire has for Zen Gardens. We have had one lying around ever since we moved in. Occasionally some stressed or even drunk person gets the opportunity to make lovely designs in the sand.

But now you can get a mini sandbox playset to run the Tonka trucks around. It’s probably just as fun for the stressed or drunk people who play with ours, but it is also quite fun for the kids as well.

sean and bindi

Claire was flicking through the pictures from her facebook friends (something that I refuse to do at this stage) and she came across this hilarious photo of Sean and Bindi. Not only are they absolutely gorgeous together, but the expression on Bindi’s face is priceless. Ahh children.

a building fit for a king

Modern architecture seems to be moving much faster with every day that passes. Combine this with countries that are sitting on the riches of mass oil reserves and the game gets a lot more interesting.

In competition with some of the world’s greatest architects, Snøhetta has won the competition about designing Saudi Arabia’s new Cultural Center. Saudi Aramco – the world’s largest oil company – is the client.

It is a fascinating idea. Some of the concept drawings for the buildings as seen by clicking this link, are absolutely amazing. It reminds me of a collection of rocks that have been wedged into a crevice. Who would have thought that would have been an appropriate model for a building.

vintage charlie photos

Last weekened Claire and I were cleaning up Des’s camera when we found these vintage shots of Charlie. She’s so gorgeous she makes me turn into a big ball of goo. It’s been a long time since she was this little or fragile. At this age, she didn’t even think she ran the house. How nice it was back then…

ammonite fossil concrete wash basin

More design nerd goodness. This time it’s a wash basin in the shape of an old fossil. It is probably not appropriate for day to day use, but when has that ever stopped a designer doing what they do. And why should that stop me adoring it.

Who makes a language that has a Switch statement that only handles integers for cases?

Java… How bloody stupid.

nintendo girl

Nintendo Girl – noun. Describes the type of girl that every gamer would love to spend a night with, but will never get the opportunity to, due to the lack of social skills engineered into their personality from countless hours of playing console games instead of talking to the opposite sex.

miss piggy: f$%k the pain away

Another mashup, but this time involving Miss Piggy doing a cover of Peache’s Fuck the pain away. I love this song, and I’m glad someone has taken the time to stitch the two together. Besides, the ironing is delicious, because we all thought that Miss Piggy was having her pain removed by Kermit the whole time that the show was on tv.

guy kawasaki on the art of innovation

This Keynote speech by Guy Kawasaki (ex Apple engineer) was recently sent to me. The content, focusing on his belief of how innovation should be undertaken, is insightful and too good to keep to myself. Anyone in the market of product innovation should take this on board, it wouldn’t hurt your strategy one bit.

kang and kudos are in the house

What would a building look like if the Simpson’s aliens Kang and Kudos took it hostage. Maybe something like this, or maybe something with a little bit more slime. Either way, there would probably be some rectal probing (or does this only occur with aliens that have heads shaped like upside down pairs???).

real world numeric keypad

My love of design and my love of nerdy calculators in the one product. How appropriate. If I ever need a lot of seats for an event, I think I might have found them.
